Synopsis
Hitler: The Rise of Evil (2003) is a Canadian two-part biographical miniseries you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Christian Duguay. It follows Adolf Hitler from his years as a failed art student in Vienna through to his consolidation of power as chancellor — tracing the path a man took, and the system that cleared it for him.
Robert Carlyle plays Hitler without the iconography: no early monster, just a damaged, furious man who discovered that humiliation could be turned into rhetoric, and rhetoric into votes. Peter O'Toole as Hindenburg, Peter Stormare, Stockard Channing, and Liev Schreiber form a cast that gives the surrounding political machinery real weight.
The series refuses the easier story — that evil of this scale requires a uniquely evil man. Carlyle landed a Golden Globe nomination for the performance. The question the miniseries keeps asking, about how democracies give themselves away, hasn't gone stale. Stream Hitler: The Rise of Evil online on iFILM.
