Synopsis
"The Keeper" (Trautmann, 2018) is a German-British drama you can watch online on iFILM, based on the life of Bert Trautmann — a Wehrmacht soldier who spent the postwar years becoming the most unlikely hero in Manchester City history. David Kross plays Trautmann; Freya Mavor plays Margaret, the English woman who changed everything.
Trautmann chose to stay in Britain as a prisoner of war rather than go home. City fans protested when the club signed him. His coach held firm; the saves spoke for themselves. Then came Margaret, whose father ran the club and who didn't share the community's grievance. Directed by Marcus H. Rosenmüller, the film earns its wartime backdrop — this is a story about what it takes for a country to let someone in.
