The Gromovs (Seasons 1–2)

The Gromovs (2006) is a Russian family drama series you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Alexander Baranov. It's the late 1970s in Kamenka, a Soviet mining settlement where life moves on shift schedules and school bells. Maria Gromova, played by Larisa Shakhvorostova, teaches at the local school. Her husband Fyodor, played by Sergei Makhovich, goes down the mine each morning. Four children, a small household, a life built day by day.

Then Fyodor is killed, and everything that held the family in place disappears with him. Maria packs up and leaves Kamenka — four kids, no backup plan, a city ahead that owes her nothing. The series is really about what comes next: how a woman carries four children on her own, how grief shows up not in breakdowns but in overdue bills and sleepless nights, how a family stays a family when the person holding it together is gone.
