Synopsis
The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising (2007) is a family fantasy adventure from director David L. Cunningham that you can watch online on iFILM. On his fourteenth birthday, ordinary teenager Will Stanton learns he is the last of the Old Ones, immortal guardians who have held back the Dark for centuries.
To stop it, Will must track down six hidden Signs scattered across different eras of history. Mentors Merriman and Miss Greythorne push him forward, while the Rider — a chilling turn from Christopher Eccleston — works to tear time apart and pull the world back into shadow. Will steps through whole centuries, doubts his own family, and struggles to figure out who is actually on his side.
The film adapts Susan Cooper's novel from her Dark Is Rising sequence, taking heavy liberties that frustrated longtime fans of the books. Ian McShane and Eccleston lend gravity to a fairly straightforward quest. It's undemanding good-versus-evil fantasy, best suited to a quiet night when you want stakes without sharp edges.
