Synopsis
Tepepa (1969) is an Italian-Spanish political western you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Giulio Petroni. Mexican revolutionary Tepepa outrides a manhunt and picks the fight back up — but the man across from him, police commander Cascorro played by Orson Welles, is less a person than a system that has learned to absorb resistance.
Tomas Milian plays Tepepa as someone who speaks the language of the revolution without always living it — brave, driven, and not entirely honest about whose cause he's actually fighting. The film doesn't let him off the hook, and it doesn't let Welles' Cascorro turn into a cartoon villain either.
Ennio Morricone's score gives the film a sonic register that lifts it above most of its genre contemporaries. Petroni's Mexican Revolution setting carries real political weight. Stream Tepepa (1969) online on iFILM.
