Synopsis
Kings of the Road (Im Lauf der Zeit, 1976) is Wim Wenders' black-and-white road movie you can watch online on iFILM. Bruno drives a converted truck along the East–West German border, repairing projectors in run-down rural cinemas.
A second man climbs aboard — Robert, a doctor fresh off a failed marriage and a half-hearted suicide attempt. What follows is a few days of wordless male friendship on empty roads: fragments of talk, nights in the cab, the wreckage of two lives slowly aired out. Almost nothing happens in plot terms, and that is exactly the point.
This closes Wenders' road trilogy and ranks among the landmarks of New German Cinema. Robby Müller's camera turns the deserted borderland into the real lead, and Wenders himself shows up in a small part. It runs nearly three hours and never hurries — one for viewers who already love Jarmusch, Antonioni or the slow-burn road film. Stream Kings of the Road (1976) online on iFILM.
