Synopsis
Every Thing Will Be Fine (2015) is a drama directed by Wim Wenders, available to watch online on iFILM. Writer Tomas — James Franco — drives out of town after a minor argument with his girlfriend. On a quiet road he hits a child. The boy dies. The film is about everything that comes after.
Shot in 3D across Canada, Germany, Norway, and Sweden, Wenders uses the format to give the winter landscapes a cold, physical weight that matches the subject matter. Rachel McAdams plays Tomas's ex-girlfriend; Charlotte Gainsbourg is the mother of the child he killed; Peter Stormare appears as her husband in a brief scene that lands harder than it has any right to. The story spans several years — Tomas publishes novels, builds a new life, earns recognition — while the film keeps returning to the question of what a person owes to people they have irrevocably harmed.
This is a slow film about guilt that never announces itself as a film about guilt. Franco is quieter here than in most of his work, and Wenders gives him room to just exist in the frame. For viewers who need momentum and resolution, this won't work. For those comfortable with open-ended reckoning — watch Every Thing Will Be Fine (2015) online on iFILM.
