Leonora Quine walks into the office because her husband, provocative novelist Owen Quine, has vanished — and at first it reads like one of his usual sulks away from home. It isn't. The case turns on an unpublished manuscript, Bombyx Mori, in which Quine skewered real figures from London's publishing world; every thinly veiled portrait hands someone a motive. Strike and Robin make the rounds of writers, agents and editors, sorting out who the author wounded badly enough to strike back.
