Synopsis

A package arrives at the Denmark Street office. Robin Ellacott opens it and finds a woman's severed leg. The police lock onto one suspect; Strike doesn't buy it. Instead he draws up his own shortlist — three men out of his past, each capable of this kind of cruelty. As he and Robin work those three dark trails, more victims surface and the clock runs down. Robin's own life frays at the same time: her wedding to Matthew looms, and the job keeps pulling her toward danger.

The season runs darker than the earlier ones because the threat is personal, and for the first time the partners argue over how far they're willing to go.
