Our Flag Means Death (2022) is an HBO Max pirate comedy series — watch all episodes online on iFILM. The year is 1717. Stede Bonnet, an English gentleman of considerable wealth and zero relevant skills, abandons his estate, wife, and children to become a pirate. He has the ship, the hat, and the library. What he lacks is any idea what he's doing.

Rhys Darby plays Stede as a man who treats the Caribbean the way others treat a book club, and it's consistently funny. The show shifts into something richer once the incompetent Gentleman Pirate crosses paths with the legendary Blackbeard, played by Taika Waititi — who also directed several episodes and produced. What develops between them is the emotional centre of the whole series.
