Synopsis
The Last Movie Star (2018) is a drama you can watch online on iFILM. Adam Rifkin wrote and directed it around Burt Reynolds, and around the real arc of his life. A faded Hollywood heartthrob, now an old man whose name people forget, gets talked into accepting a prize at a tiny film festival in Nashville and, against his better judgment, books the flight.
What greets him is no red carpet. It's a room above a bar, a couple of star-struck organizers and a near-empty screening. His ride around town is Lil (Ariel Winter), a brash young woman who has no idea who he used to be. The trip turns into a quiet farewell as he revisits his childhood home and the streets that made him.
Rifkin splices in actual footage of the young Reynolds from Deliverance and Smokey and the Bandit, so the actor on screen literally argues with his own youth. It became Burt's final leading role, and he's essentially playing a version of himself. A small, melancholy picture for anyone who loves old Hollywood.
