Synopsis
Love in the City (L'amore in città, 1953) is an Italian anthology film you can watch online on iFILM, with six segments directed by Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Alberto Lattuada, Dino Risi, Carlo Lizzani, and Francesco Maselli.
Each episode takes a different cut at love and desire in postwar Rome — Antonioni examines the cold statistics behind suicide attempts among young lovers, Fellini visits a marriage bureau, Risi tracks the nightly choreography of men and women on public dance floors. The unifying principle was a strict one: no invented scenarios, no professional actors, only real people and real situations filmed on location.
Conceived as the launch issue of a film "magazine," it never got a second edition. What it did leave behind is a precise document of early-1950s Rome and one of the few films that puts Fellini and Antonioni side by side in their early careers. Stream Love in the City (1953) online on iFILM.
