Synopsis
The Hummingbird (Il colibrì, 2022) is an Italian-French drama from director Francesca Archibugi — watch online on iFILM with Pierfrancesco Favino at its centre. He plays Marco Carrera, nicknamed "the hummingbird" for his ability to hover perfectly still while everything around him spins into chaos. The film spans from the 1970s to the present, moving through decades of a single life in non-chronological bursts.
Marco has loved Luisa since a summer by the sea in his youth — she's played by Bérénice Bejo — but he married Marina, played by Kasja Smutniak, and the two women define the poles of a life he never quite inhabits fully. His parents' marriage is quietly catastrophic. His sister is in freefall. Only his daughter gives him something steady to hold onto, and even that comes with a cost.
Archibugi adapted the novel by Sandro Veronesi, who took the Premio Strega twice for it — Italy's top literary prize. The film's fragmented structure isn't a puzzle to solve but a way of showing how memory actually works: not in order, but in weight. Stream The Hummingbird online on iFILM.
