Back in Cascade, Washington, he runs into Blair Sandburg, an anthropology student who has spent years researching the ancient legend of the sentinel — a guardian whose heightened senses protected the tribe. Sandburg becomes Jim's unofficial partner, helping him stay grounded; without that anchor, sensory overload can hit mid-investigation and shut him down completely.
