WarGames: The Dead Code

Student and hacker Will Farmer jumps into an online terror-simulation game for a bet, never realizing the thing on the other side isn't a website but RIPLEY, a government supercomputer built to sniff out would-be terrorists. The machine takes the game at face value and flags Will as a real threat. With his friend Annie, he runs from federal agents across the country, trying to prove he was playing, not plotting. Matt Lanter and Amanda Walsh lead, with Colm Feore voicing the cold logic behind RIPLEY.

This one went straight to video and never aimed for prestige, but the core idea still holds: a system that can't tell a game from an actual attack felt sharper in 2008 than it did in 1983.
