Synopsis
After the Ball (2015) is a Canadian romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM — director Sean Garrity's Cinderella retelling set inside the fashion industry. Kate (Portia Doubleday) has the talent to design for couture houses, but every door slams in her face the moment they learn her father Lee (Chris Noth) runs a retail chain that knocks off the very designers she wants to work for.
Forced to join the family business, Kate ends up navigating a wicked stepmother and two scheming stepsisters while plotting her way out. The answer comes through a bold switch of identities: a new name, a new look, and nobody at the top knows who she really is. Marc-André Grondin plays the one person in the building who seems to see through the whole act.
The fairy-tale bones are right on the surface from the first scene, so there are no real surprises in where it goes. What makes it work is Doubleday's energy and the film's knowing jabs at fashion-world pretension — sharper than the premise suggests. Stream After the Ball (2015) online on iFILM.
