Synopsis
Page Eight (2011) is a BBC British spy thriller you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by David Hare. Bill Nighy leads as Johnny Worricker, a veteran MI5 officer who has spent decades in the quiet machinery of intelligence — until his boss and closest friend dies and leaves behind a file that no one was supposed to see.
The document inside threatens figures at the highest levels of government. At almost the same moment, a woman named Nancy Pierpan appears next door, and Worricker cannot quite decide whether that is a coincidence worth trusting. Rachel Weisz plays Nancy, Rafe Fiennes is the new head of the service, and Michael Gambon has a brief but pivotal role as the dead friend. Hare builds tension through dialogue and omission rather than action sequences — the dread is bureaucratic and very British.
Page Eight is the first entry in the Worricker trilogy, followed by Turks and Caicos and Salting the Battlefield. Nighy brings a lived-in weariness to the role that makes the character work far better than the premise alone would suggest. Stream Page Eight (2011) on iFILM.
