About

Synopsis

Rolling Thunder (1977) is a Vietnam-era revenge thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by John Flynn from a screenplay by Paul Schrader. William Devane plays Major Charles Rane, a POW who spent eight years in a North Vietnamese camp and comes home to San Antonio to a hero's welcome — a Cadillac, a box of silver dollars, and a wife who's moved on.

Rane takes none of it personally. The camp stripped everything out of him, including the part that reacts to pain, insult or loss. When a group of thieves break in, murder his son, and feed his hand into a garbage disposal for the silver dollars, he doesn't break down. He plans. He tracks. Tommy Lee Jones plays his fellow veteran Vohden, a man with no particular reason to join the hunt except that civilian life hasn't given him any reason not to.

Schrader wrote this immediately after Taxi Driver, and the same hollow fury running under Travis Bickle runs through Rane — except here it's even quieter. For a revenge film, it's strikingly cold. Stream Rolling Thunder (1977) online on iFILM.
