Synopsis
Immoral Tales (Contes immoraux, 1974) is a French erotic anthology you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Polish-French filmmaker Walerian Borowczyk. Four episodes span centuries, from a sun-drenched contemporary beach to the courts of Renaissance Europe.
A college student engineers a secluded encounter with his cousin during a tidal stretch; a convent novice finds her own theology of desire; the portrait of Countess Erzsébet Báthory, who reportedly bathed in the blood of young women to preserve her youth, gets a cool, tableau-like treatment that's more Flemish painting than exploitation. The cycle closes on Lucrezia Borgia's entanglement with her father, Pope Alexander VI. Borowczyk was a trained visual artist before he turned to film, and it shows — the camera lingers on textures, candlelight and Renaissance costume rather than sensation for its own sake. It also gave Paloma Picasso, the painter's daughter, her screen debut. Stream Immoral Tales online on iFILM.
