Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
Flying through space and firing missiles! A dreadful Godzilla, whose whole body is a weapon, appears!
Synopsis
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974) is a Toho sci-fi adventure you can watch online on iFILM. Director Jun Fukuda introduced the franchise's most durable mechanical villain here: a steel replica of Godzilla, built and piloted by an alien race bent on planetary conquest.
The trouble starts when Godzilla acts wrong — he attacks his ally Anguirus, something the real creature would never do. The armored shell cracks to reveal Mechagodzilla underneath, bristling with missiles and eye-beams. To tip the scales, humanity calls on King Caesar, an ancient Okinawan guardian sealed inside a clifftop shrine, waiting for the right moment to wake.
Mechagodzilla went on to appear in multiple sequels and reboots, but this is where the rivalry started. The Showa-era suit work holds up better than you'd expect, and the Okinawan mythology woven through the plot gives the monster brawl an unusual texture.
