The case resists them from the start. A witness can't be trusted, a fire burns away what few answers there were, and the dead woman — Eadie — turns out to carry a grudge from her years as a social worker. Around the inquiry the village simmers: holidaymakers Chris and Hayley gamble everything to clear their debts, and Stevie's deepening paranoia drags the story somewhere darker. The shorter the suspect list grows, the heavier each step becomes.
