Shetland is a BBC crime drama series running since 2013 — watch all seasons online on iFILM. Douglas Henshall plays DI Jimmy Perez, a detective who grew up on the Shetland Islands and now investigates murders within a community so small that everyone is a potential suspect and a potential witness.

The islands sit far north of mainland Scotland, exposed to Atlantic weather and connected to the rest of the country mainly by ferry. Perez works without the backup of a large city force, which means cases here tend to get personal. Ashley Jensen and Alison O'Donnell join him across the seasons, and each series tackles a self-contained case rooted in the island's particular social fabric.

The show is based on Ann Cleeves' novels — she also wrote the Vera series. The location is shot without flattery: wind, low light, and rough water are as much a part of the texture as the plot.
