The further DI Jimmy Perez follows the thread, the less it reads like an ordinary disappearance. The newcomers are running from something, and it looks to have caught up with them on Shetland. An unidentified body turns up, and the picture of Connor Cairns keeps flipping — missing kid one day, suspect on the run the next. Then a word nobody wants to hear in Lerwick surfaces: explosives. By the closing episode it's a straight race against the clock to stop a cornered man turning private grief into public catastrophe.
