DI Jimmy Perez breaks off from his mother's funeral to take the case, and the suspect list is long — the dead man made enemies easily. A second body soon forces the team to look for what ties the two killings together. Donna Killick comes back to Shetland, an attack on Sandy rattles the squad, and as a confession lands, some islanders stop waiting for the law and go after their own justice. Perez, meanwhile, is sitting on a secret that cuts close to home.
