Synopsis
Roadgames (1981) is an Australian thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Richard Franklin with a clear debt to Hitchcock's Rear Window — the entire film is built around one man watching the world from a single vantage point, except that vantage point is a moving truck cab. Stacy Keach plays Pat Quid, a long-haul driver hauling pork carcasses across the vast emptiness of the Australian highway, passing the hours by reading stories into the other vehicles around him.
The radio is running reports of a serial killer leaving female body parts along the route. Quid fixates on a green van whose driver keeps turning up at the same stops. The longer he watches, the more convinced he becomes. Jamie Lee Curtis shows up as a hitchhiker who either believes him or is very good at pretending to — she's cagey enough to keep you guessing. Franklin stretches the tension across long stretches of empty road and night driving, making the isolation itself feel threatening.
It arrived at the height of Curtis's scream-queen years but plays closer to a paranoid detective story than a slasher. Stream Roadgames (1981) on iFILM.
