Wendy is a Manhattan book critic whose marriage ends without warning. She's lived in New York her whole adult life and never learned to drive — and suddenly that feels like a symptom of something larger. Her instructor is Darwan, a Sikh immigrant from India who gives lessons by day and faces an arranged marriage he hasn't chosen by night. They have nothing in common except the front seat of a car, and that turns out to be enough.

Clarkson and Kingsley keep it understated throughout — no grand speeches, just two people in a compact car telling each other things they haven't said out loud before.
