Synopsis

Lost in a blizzard, Daniel Dillon hands his wife and infant daughter to a prospector in exchange for a gold claim. Twenty years on, Dillon (Peter Mullan) rules Kingdom Come, a boomtown he built out of snow and ore. Then two arrivals upend everything: a railway surveyor charting a new line that could bypass the town, and a young woman (Sarah Polley) who turns out to be the daughter he sold. Nastassja Kinski and Milla Jovovich round out the women bound to his fortune.
Winterbottom transplants Thomas Hardy's novel The Mayor of Casterbridge onto the American frontier, and the mountain snow becomes a character of its own: vast, deafening, indifferent. A glacial, unhurried drama about a debt the past always collects. Stream The Claim online on iFILM.
