Synopsis
Link (1986) is a British horror oddity by Richard Franklin that you can watch online on iFILM. Graduate student Jane Chase takes a job assisting an eccentric zoology professor at his isolated house, home to two clever chimpanzees and an elderly orangutan butler named Link. It opens almost like a comedy about an ape in a waistcoat.
Then the professor vanishes. One chimp turns up dead, a visitor never makes it back to town, and Link grows less and less willing to share his home with a stranger. Cut off from help, Jane finds herself alone with an animal that is stronger and smarter than any grown man. Elizabeth Shue plays the slow slide into panic, while Terence Stamp gives the professor a quiet arrogance that earns its consequences.
Franklin, a Hitchcock pupil, builds dread from a simple idea: the thing to fear can open doors and hold a grudge. Jerry Goldsmith's score keeps the unease humming under every scene. A strange, underrated creature feature for viewers tired of the usual genre beats. Stream Link (1986) online on iFILM.
