Fist of the North Star
An epic assault on the senses!
Synopsis
Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken, 1986) is a landmark Japanese animated film you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Toyoo Ashida and produced by Toei Animation, the movie adapts the manga by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara — condensing several major story arcs into 112 minutes of post-apocalyptic martial arts violence.
The world ended in nuclear fire. What remains is a wasteland where armed gangs own the roads and the strong prey on everyone else. Kenshiro is the 64th successor of Hokuto Shinken, a school of combat built around striking the body's pressure points — opponents tend to explode a few seconds after he touches them. His journey pits him against warlords, rival martial arts masters, and finally his own brother Raoh, whose ambition is to conquer what is left of humanity.
The film holds up as an introduction to the franchise and as a time capsule of mid-eighties anime aesthetics: heavy linework, synthesizer-heavy score, and a body count that clearly influenced every post-apocalyptic action title that followed it. Stream Fist of the North Star (1986) online on iFILM.
