Synopsis
Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986) is an American comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Paul Mazursky and starring Nick Nolte, Bette Midler and Richard Dreyfuss. It's a loose remake of Jean Renoir's 1932 French classic Boudu Saved from Drowning, relocated to sunlit Los Angeles.
Tramp Jerry Baskin dives into millionaire Dave Whiteman's pool to end it all. Dave fishes him out — and invites him to stay. Jerry finds a household already unravelling without his help: Dave's wife Barbara chases enlightenment through aerobics and Eastern mysticism, their son is struggling with his identity, their daughter is in the grip of an eating disorder, and even the family dog is in therapy. One drifter with no stake in any of it turns out to be exactly the disruption they need. Mazursky shoots the Beverly Hills milieu with affection and a sharp eye; it's the kind of satire that earns its laughs by paying attention. Stream Down and Out in Beverly Hills online on iFILM.
