Synopsis

A man found dead on his street, killed by a crossbow bolt. A second killing follows. Local man Ian St. Clair falls under suspicion, but the detective on the case turns up something stranger: arrest records from 1984 have been quietly edited — the kind of cover-up that points back to the miners' strike that split this community in two. Directors Clio Barnard and Lewis Arnold work with Lesley Manville, David Morrissey, Adeel Akhtar and Stephen Dillane to build the tension out of old resentments rather than action sequences. The murders are almost a pretext. What the series is really about is forty years of buried grudges, finally going off.
