Synopsis
The Driller Killer (1979) is Abel Ferrara's debut horror film — watch it online on iFILM. Ferrara shot the film himself on the streets of late-seventies New York, on a shoestring budget, and took the lead role under the name Jimmy Laine.
Reno is a painter barely hanging on in a Manhattan apartment he shares with two women. The rent is overdue, the canvas is going nowhere, and a punk band rehearses in the building below at all hours. The city grinds on him until he starts going out at night with a power drill. Ferrara wasn't making a straight slasher — the film works as a portrait of a man being dismantled by financial stress and sensory overload, with a decaying New York as the condition rather than the backdrop. Raw, low-fi, and genuinely unsettling in a way that polished genre horror rarely manages. Stream The Driller Killer online on iFILM.
