Synopsis
Casanova (2005) is a BBC Three miniseries you can watch online on iFILM, written by Russell T Davies and directed by Sherrie Folkson. David Tennant plays the young Giacomo Casanova; Peter O'Toole takes him in old age.
Castle Dux, Bohemia, 1798. Casanova is a penniless librarian — old, broke, stripped of everything that made him famous. A kitchen maid named Edith finds out who he is, and he starts talking: Venice, Paris, Rome, prison, the escape from the Leads that made his legend, and everywhere women. But the story keeps returning to Henriette — the one he lost and never stopped measuring everyone else against.
Tennant shot this a year before Doctor Who, and the recklessness that defined that role is fully present here. Davies writes the eighteenth century as a setting for something more immediate — the period detail is light, the emotional weight isn't. Watch Casanova (2005) online on iFILM.
