Synopsis

Asylum (1972) is a British horror anthology you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Roy Ward Baker and scripted by Robert Bloch — the author of Psycho. The cast includes Peter Cushing, Charlotte Rampling, Herbert Lom, and Britt Ekland. Dr. Martin arrives at Dunsmoor asylum hoping to fill a vacant post, only to find the previous head doctor has become a patient himself. The test for the job: interview four inmates and identify which one he is.

Four rooms, four stories. A body dismembered and kept in a freezer that refuses to stay still. A tailor who builds a suit that animates on its own. A hired killer whose target turns out to be the wrong person. An identity that may or may not belong to the face presenting it. Bloch constructs each segment as a closed loop, and then the wrap-around ending resets everything you assumed.

Amicus Productions was Hammer's more sardonic cousin, and this is one of their tidiest efforts. The horror here runs on atmosphere and dark wit rather than gore — Cushing does more with two scenes than most actors manage in a lead. Stream Asylum (1972) on iFILM.
