Synopsis
The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1974) is a gothic-horror-meets-kung-fu hybrid you can watch online on iFILM. A rare co-production between Britain's Hammer studio and Hong Kong's Shaw Brothers, it drops Count Dracula into rural China.
Lecturing in Chungking, Professor Van Helsing hears the legend of seven gold-masked vampires terrorizing a mountain village. The undead answer to Dracula himself, now hiding inside a stolen body. To stand against them, the professor joins a brotherhood of seven martial-arts warriors who take on the resurrected dead with bare fists and blades. Peter Cushing, a veteran of Hammer's Dracula cycle, anchors a cast stacked with Shaw Brothers stars led by David Chiang.
Two directors shaped the film: Britain's Roy Ward Baker and Hong Kong action legend Chang Cheh, which explains its odd, irresistible blend of fog-bound crypts and flying kicks.
