Synopsis
Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde (1971) is a Hammer horror you can watch online for a bold, gender-twisting spin on Stevenson's classic. Victorian London, fog hanging over Whitechapel. Dr Jekyll, obsessed with cheating death, brews an elixir from female hormones.
The experiment goes sideways. Instead of immortality, the potion turns him into a beautiful, ice-cold woman who calls herself Sister Hyde and passes as the doctor's sibling. To keep the research alive she needs fresh victims, and the back alleys fill with dread. With every dose Hyde grows stronger, pushing the frail Jekyll further into the background. Ralph Bates and Martine Beswick share one body across two minds, and those transformations are the most unsettling thing here.
Director Roy Ward Baker braids the Jekyll myth into the legends of Jack the Ripper and the body-snatchers Burke and Hare. Gothic atmosphere, Hammer's trademark blood, and a theme surprisingly daring for its day. It's a treat for fans of vintage British horror with a wicked hook.
