Synopsis
Come Drink with Me (1966) is a Hong Kong wuxia adventure from director King Hu that you can watch online on iFILM. A band of rebels grabs the governor's son and offers a trade: the boy for their jailed chief.
The official sent to bring him back is a swordswoman known as Golden Sparrow, played by Cheng Pei-pei — and the captive happens to be her brother. She walks into a roadside inn, scatters the whole gang single-handed, then takes a poisoned dart to the shoulder. Help arrives in the unlikely shape of a wine-begging vagrant who slurs his way through town. Beneath the rags hides a kung fu master nicknamed Drunken Cat (Yueh Hua), and together they plot a raid on the bandits' stronghold.
King Hu turned the swordplay into something close to choreography and built the story around a woman who outfights every man in the room — a bold move for 1966. The film set the template for the Hong Kong martial-arts wave and echoed decades later in Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, where the same Cheng Pei-pei returned as a venomous teacher. For fans of old-school martial arts, this one is essential. Stream Come Drink with Me (1966) online on iFILM.
