Synopsis
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (2007) is an HBO historical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Yves Simoneau's film traces the long road toward that frozen creek in South Dakota in 1890, where armed Sioux resistance finally ran out.
The story moves between two men. Charles Eastman (Adam Beach) is a Lakota raised and trained as a doctor in white schools, paraded by officials as proof that assimilation works. Sitting Bull, played by August Schellenberg, is the chief whose people had just crushed Custer's cavalry at Little Bighorn — and who refuses to sign away his land or his dignity. Caught between them is Senator Dawes (Aidan Quinn), certain he is rescuing the very people whose lives he is rewriting. Anna Paquin plays a schoolteacher watching her ideals curdle.
Drawn from Dee Brown's 1970 bestseller — the book that reframed how a generation understood the conquest of the American West — this is a hard, unsentimental watch for anyone who wants the Western told by the side that lost. Its six Emmy wins say the telling landed. Stream Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (2007) online on iFILM.
