From the Terrace

From the Terrace (1960) — watch online on iFILM — is an American drama directed by Mark Robson, based on John O'Hara's novel. Paul Newman plays Alfred Eaton, a young war veteran who comes home to a broken family and decides the only direction worth going is up. He lands a wealthy wife, fights his way into New York finance, and starts climbing.

The higher he gets, the less of himself he recognises. His marriage to the socialite Mary — played by Joanne Woodward, Newman's real-life wife — collapses as ambition takes up all the space.
