Synopsis
The Tit and the Moon (La teta y la luna, 1994) is a Spanish-French tragicomedy by Bigas Luna that you can watch online in good quality. Set in a Catalan town famous for its human towers, it follows a nine-year-old boy about to lose the one thing he loves most.
Tete is nine and panicking: a baby brother is on the way, which means sharing his mother's breast. Refusing to accept it, he begs the moon to grant him a tit of his very own. From there a child's fantasy collides with the grown-up world of desire — a cabaret rolls into town and Tete falls head over heels for the dancer Estrellita, who comes with a melancholy French husband and sorrows of her own.
This is the closing chapter of Bigas Luna's "Iberian trilogy," after Jamón Jamón and Golden Balls, featuring a young Javier Bardem alongside Mathilda May. The film is frank, odd and tender all at once — a Freudian fable about jealousy, milk and first longing, shot with the director's trademark Mediterranean sensuality. Not for everyone, but a real find for fans of 1990s European arthouse. Stream The Tit and the Moon (1994) online on iFILM.
