Synopsis
House of Fools (2002) is a Franco-Russian drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Andrei Konchalovsky placed the story inside a psychiatric ward on the Chechnya-Russia border — a place where the patients barely register that a war has arrived.
The staff disappears one morning without explanation. The patients are left on their own: first Chechen fighters move in, then Russian troops return. At the center is Zhanna, played by Yulia Vysotskaya, who is completely certain that Canadian pop star Bryan Adams is her fiancé — and Adams appears in the film to play himself. Yevgeny Mironov portrays a Chechen soldier caught between duty and something closer to conscience.
Konchalovsky took home the Grand Special Jury Prize at Venice 2002. The question the film keeps circling has no clean answer: who is actually out of their mind here — the patients behind the fence, or the reasonable world outside that keeps firing guns? Watch House of Fools online on iFILM.
