Synopsis
Every Time We Say Goodbye (1986) is a wartime romance you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Israeli filmmaker Moshé Mizrahi. Set in Jerusalem during World War II, it follows David, an American Protestant pilot on leave after an injury, who falls for Sára — a young woman from a tightly-knit Sephardic Jewish family whose customs have never bent for an outsider.
Tom Hanks plays David two years before Big made him a household name; Cristina Marsillach is Sára. What the film does quietly is show two people who genuinely want to be together running up against a wall of tradition that neither one built and neither can dismantle alone. The family's resistance is not villainy — it is just how things are, which makes the situation more honest and more painful.
Mizrahi had taken home the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for Madame Rosa nearly a decade before making this one. Every Time We Say Goodbye is small, unhurried, and overlooked. Watch it online on iFILM.
