The Hands of Orlac

His wife is desperate, a sinister stranger prowls the house, and the line between a cracking mind and a real curse keeps dissolving.

Director Robert Wiene, a master of German Expressionism, adapted Maurice Renard's novel into one of the defining horrors of the silent era. Its uneasy shadows, warped sets and Veidt's haunted performance inspired several later Hollywood remakes.
