Synopsis
A World Apart (Un mondo a parte, 2024) is an Italian comedy directed by Riccardo Milani — watch it online on iFILM. Antonio Albanese plays Michele Cortese, a Rome schoolteacher with forty years behind him in the city's noisy classrooms. His next posting: a tiny village school in the Apennine highlands, six pupils aged seven to ten, and vice-principal Agnese — played by Virginia Raffaele — who has kept the place running through sheer stubbornness.
Michele arrives with a Roman's assumptions and sheds them one by one. The children are unpredictable in the best way. Agnese is blunt, funny, and far more competent than anyone has acknowledged. Then the school board sends notice: enrollment is below the legal threshold, and the school will be shut at the end of the year. Michele and Agnese decide they are not done yet.
Milani keeps the comedy grounded — no broad farce, no easy uplift. What he is really after is the argument that a school this small is not a cost problem but a community's spine. Albanese and Raffaele make that argument feel lived-in. Stream A World Apart (2024) on iFILM.
