Synopsis
24 Frames (2018) is an experimental film you can watch online on iFILM — the final work of Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, completed after his death in July 2016. Kiarostami won the Palme d'Or at Cannes for Taste of Cherry; this was the project he spent his last three years building.
The film runs as twenty-four pieces, each exactly four minutes and thirty seconds long. Every episode starts from a still image — a painting or a photograph — and Kiarostami animated it digitally: snow begins to fall on a Bruegel winter landscape, a deer crosses a field, a figure walks through an empty room. Photography freezes time; here the clock starts again.
Knowing the edit was finished without him gives each episode a strange, quiet weight. This is not a narrative film and not a technical exercise — it is a filmmaker thinking out loud about what looking at an image actually means. Stream 24 Frames online on iFILM.
