Synopsis
Where Is the Friend's House? (خانهی دوست کجاست؟, 1987) is an Iranian drama you can watch online on iFILM — the first chapter of Abbas Kiarostami's Koker Trilogy. Eight-year-old Ahmad accidentally takes his classmate Mohammad's exercise book home. One fact makes it urgent: their teacher has threatened to expel Mohammad if the homework isn't handed in the next morning.
Ahmad knows only the name of the neighboring village — Koker. What follows is a long afternoon walk across hillsides and through courtyards, past old men who redirect him in circles and adults too busy to notice a child on a serious errand. The film shoots it all in long, unhurried takes on real village locations, with non-professional children carrying almost every scene.
Kiarostami took the Bronze Leopard at Locarno with this film, and it introduced him to international audiences who went on to make him one of the defining names in world cinema. The genius of it is that there's no villain, no dramatic twist — just a boy who takes a promise literally while the grown-up world shrugs. Stream Where Is the Friend's House? online on iFILM.
