Mutant Action

Mutant Action (Acción mutante, 1993) is the feature debut of Spanish director Álex de la Iglesia — stream online on iFILM. A Spanish-French sci-fi action comedy with a mean satirical edge, it announced a filmmaker who would go on to make The Day of the Beast and The Oxford Murders.

The year is 2012. Beauty is power, and the ugly and disabled have had enough. A ragtag terrorist cell called Acción Mutante declares war on the wealthy elite. Their boldest move: snatching Patricia, daughter of the richest man in the country, right off the dancefloor at her own wedding. The ransom plan starts falling apart almost immediately, and the crew starts thinning out fast.

It's rough around the edges — intentionally so. De la Iglesia uses the low-budget sci-fi setting to go after class privilege with a chainsaw rather than a scalpel, and the result is gleefully uncomfortable. Watch Mutant Action (1993) online on iFILM.
