Synopsis
Chronos (1985) is Ron Fricke's wordless documentary, now available to watch online on iFILM. Forty-three minutes, no dialogue, no characters — just image, music, and time itself doing the storytelling.
Fricke shot on a large-format rig built for IMAX and compressed the planet into time-lapse. The Grand Canyon, the pyramids at Giza, Inca temples, the Hagia Sophia — sunrises pass in seconds, crowds pour through squares, shadows race across ancient stone. Michael Stearns wrote the electronic score, and the sound carries as much weight as the picture. Think of it as the dry run for Fricke's later Baraka and Samsara.
Built for a big screen and a good sound system, meditative and plotless, it's made for anyone who loves contemplative non-fiction and time-lapse craft. Stream Chronos (1985) online on iFILM.
