The Official Story

The Official Story (La historia oficial, 1985) is an Argentine drama directed by Luis Puenzo — watch it online on iFILM. Norma Aleandro and Héctor Alterio star in a film set in Buenos Aires during the final, unravelling months of military rule.

Alicia teaches high school history and has always accepted the approved version of events. Then a friend who survived detention tells her things that can't be unheard, and Alicia starts pulling at a thread she'd rather have left alone: where did her adopted daughter Gaby actually come from? Her husband's evasions say more than his words. The further Alicia digs, the more her comfortable life and her understanding of what happened in Argentina press against each other.
