Synopsis
Amrum (2025) is Fatih Akin's coming-of-age drama, now streaming online on iFILM. The setting is a wind-scoured North Frisian island in the final weeks before Germany's surrender. Twelve-year-old Nanning clubs seals, lines his nets after dark and labors on a neighbor's farm so his family has something to eat.
His mother still believes in the Reich to the bitter end; his father wears the SS uniform. The boy himself barely feels the weight of it — the wind, the tide and the hunt are all the paradise he knows. Then the swastikas come down, the grown-ups go quiet, his mother slides into a deep depression, and Nanning starts to see who the people around him really were. Diane Kruger, Laura Tonke and Matthias Schweighöfer fill out the world he must now find his footing in.
Akin built the script from the childhood memories of Hark Bohm — the director and actor who grew up on Amrum himself and turns up briefly on screen. A quiet film with no big speeches, about a war that ends out in the world and only then begins inside one household. Watch Amrum (2025) online on iFILM.
